Going through my father’s Australian material the other day, I thought that one of his notebooks is basically a 1940 Instagram account. Thought I might scan some of the pictures in and share them with the world, all these years later. He got the images from magazines and newspapers he read while interned in Australia during WWII. It’s fascinating how a person’s inner life stands before you when you look at a collection of hand-picked images and photos, and how you can guess, from letters and circumstances, why this or that image was important to him at the time.
This is what the notebook looks like; more will follow as time allows.
